Not Your Typical Fashion Blog
When trying to think of what I wanted my first blog to be I thought I would do some research and look at the type of content other boutiques and clothing brands were putting out just to get a general idea.
I looked at over 20 different stores and was shocked to find half didn’t even have a blog. The other half who did have a blog were putting out the same content of tips, tricks, and all you need to know to be in the latest fashion trends.
And then I had a thought.
Why is it that these clothing brands who have over hundreds of thousands, some even millions of followers who are predominantly female, are only putting out content of trends that will fade, styles that will no longer be “cool” by next spring and tricks that soon become so oversaturated by the market even your grandmother knows the trick now (no offence to all our Grammys out there, we love you!)
Some of you may be thinking: “Well they ARE a fashion brand so why wouldn’t they put out fashion content?”
And I get that. That is a very valid point.
But here is my problem.
There was a study done by Jack Zenger and Joseph Folkman a few years ago. They collected data from 4,000 women and 3,000 men. Only 30% of women who were 25 or younger said they felt confident. 50% of the men said the same.
By age 40, women and men rated themselves equally confident. At age 60 women surpassed men in confidence.
Wait, I’m sorry. Pause. Let’s just digest that last sentence really quick.
60?
60 years old?
60 years old until women surpass men in confidence?
That is INSANE.
The number of women running Fortune 500 companies hit a new record last May. There are now 37 women leading Fortune 500 firms and while there has been significant progress with gender diversity; women still only make up 7.4% of the leaders on the Fortune 500 list.
I tell you all of this because I believe there is a correlation.
For some reason women are not overly confident with themselves until apparently 60 years old. Which is just ludicrous being that the female brain is cognitively developed around 21 years old, which oh not to mention is ALSO three years faster than men!
So then why is it taking us until the age of 60 to be truly confident with ourselves?
I struggled in high school, in college and still to this day with my confidence and what I am capable of. And that is why I’m here. Writing to you.
Anne Klein said it perfectly: “Clothes aren’t going to change the world. The women who wear them will.”
Trends will fade, styles will go out of season and you will see the same trick from over a 1,000 different people.
But a woman’s confidence?
That will never go out of style.
Your confidence will never be the same as another person and it will always be a work in progress.
You were uniquely and wonderfully made. That dream was put in your heart for a reason & YOU have a purpose. Believe in yourself, believe in your dreams and don’t let anyone tell you differently.
As a business you are given a platform to speak out and share with the world what means the most to you. Everyone utilizes their platform in a different way.
I want to use my platform to get personal. To talk about things that might not be the warmest and fuzziest conversations, but conversations that need to be had and more importantly conversations that will not fade or go out of style.
Conversations that one day will be passed down to our daughters, our nieces, our goddaughters, neighbors, etc.
My intention with this blog is to grow a community of confident women who have hard but important conversations about our everyday lives, work, relationships, finances (yuck finances I know, but also very important) really anything and everything!
As you can see, this is not your typical fashion blog. Nor will it ever be.
Don’t get me wrong, fashion and style tips will still be incorporated into these blog posts. But it just won’t be the main focus point.
So cheers to you sis & cheers to saying: “Screw 60 years old.”
All my love,
P.S. Clearly I do not write grammatically or punctually correct & that is my intention with having these real and vulnerable conversations just as if we were in person talking over a cup of coffee or more likely a glass of white wine! 😊
